How Do I Practise Self-Care Without Feeling Guilty?
Teaching is a vocation, but you are not a martyr. You’re a professional—and that means knowing your limits.
Q: When is it OK to stop?
A: When your basic needs—sleep, food, relationships—are being routinely compromised. No job should cost you your health or happiness.
Q: What if my manager keeps asking for more?
A: You are allowed to say “No”. Phrase it respectfully: “I’m at capacity with X and Y. If this is a priority, which of those should I de-prioritise?” Boundaries protect your wellbeing and your professionalism.
Q: Isn’t self-care just another thing on my to-do list?
A: It doesn’t have to be. Find small moments of pleasure—sunlight, music, a good coffee. Remember, pleasure is not indolence. It’s fuel.
Top Tips
